Bacal (1990a), in referring to Stolorow’s 1986 article, acknowledged and agreed with Stolorow’s object-focused conceptualization of selfobject: Self psychological theory has, in effect, focused on the experience of self¬ object function and has lost sight of the object that provides that function and of the importance of the relationship for the patient.
